Vertigo - BPPV

Our vestibular system is a complex system with canals, hairs and crystals that provide our brain with information about our position.

In BPPV (= benign paroxysmal positional vertigo) there is a malfunction in this complex system, causing incorrect information to be passed to our brains that will lead to dizziness, sometimes in extreme forms.

The dizziness is typically triggered by head movements such as turning over in bed, looking up quickly, turning your head rapidly or getting up from a lying position. The attacks of vertigo are usually short-lived.

With some specific maneuvers we can determine whether your dizziness is BPPV related and identify whether the left or right vestibular system is causing the problem.

Following this testing we can then proceed with treatment using similar maneuvers (Epley-maneuver).

Most vertigo complaints are much better after 1 treatment and fully under control after 1-3 treatments.
