Jaw
TMD or temporo-mandibular dysfunction is a collective term for all complaints of the temporomandibular joint.
The cause of TMD is typically related to behaviors such as teeth clenching or grinding, often in response to stress or poor coordination of the masticatory muscles the chewing muscle).
This can cause inflammation or irritation of the joint capsule and/or disc, or tension and triggerpoints in the muscles of the masticatory system. This will result in pain symptoms in one or both jaw joints. Neck-pain, earache and headaches are also very commonly associated with jaw dysfunctions.
Symptoms:
• Pain or fatigue around the jaw
• Snapping, clicking or cracking noise in the jaw
• Thickened chewing muscles
• Limited mouth opening
• Headache, earache, neck pain
For the treatment of these complaints, we will relax the muscles through massage, dry needling and trigger point therapy. We restore the proper function of the temporomandibular joint, utilise manual techniques to correct the disc and provide you with exercises to improve the functioning of the jaw muscles.
